leave a whisper Jun 14, 2009 worst service ever. dont order new cds if you want a new one, they send used ones. And if you are not happy with the service and send them an email about the problem expect nasty emails from the company in return. He told me not to shop with amazon again.
Love it! Jan 30, 2009 This is one of the best cd's I have bought in years! Every track keeps me interested and I love the sound of the band. Chris Cornell may have some competition!
Leaves more than just a whisper... Nov 27, 2008 Right off the bat, this album is fantastic. Shinedown doesn't make any bones about the fact that bad stuff happens in life, and on this record they are their most honest about pain, suffering, and crippling reality.
This was a very popular Hard Rock album, and I think it was sheer quality that drove it to platinum status a few years ago. This is definitely the rawer sounding of the three albums in Shinedown's discography, with a less produced, more emotionally charged quality. It is also a more straightforward production than what was to come for the band - focusing squarely on the powering riffs and trademark bass lines custom of the genre. By no means is that to say there is no distinction between Shinedown and the other acts on the Hard Rock chart. In fact, by virtue of vocals alone, Shinedown is in a class all its own for today's generation. Brent Smith is a vocal powerhouse paralleled by few in his genre.
The opening track, "Fly From the Inside" actually begins the record on a positive note before launching into an emotional roller coaster of loneliness, lost hope, suicide, hate, shame, psycho hose beasts, and the whole damn thing. Songs like "No More Love", "Left Out", and "Stranger Inside" drip with despair, lyrically and musically. Drum beats are generally quite straightforward but there are some great arrangements and absolutely excellent riffs for all junkies to gorge themselves on.
I've listened to this album countless times over, but recently it's been harder to get into because it brings the pain to the surface. The very album that has helped me through problems in my own life actually brings up some pretty intense feelings - that's how real this album is. I know others who have been personally touched by the brutal honesty of Leave a Whisper. Mainstream Rock should take a page from Shinedown.
This version of the album has 3 bonuses that include a remix of "Burning Bright", a live acoustic rendition of ".45", and another acoustic take on the Skynard classic "Simple Man". Firstly, ".45" is a brilliantly penned masterwork all on its own, but this acoustic version brings the raw emotion to the fore in a more intimate and uncut fashion. "Simple Man" is a great cover and a different sounding take on the original version.
With a Hard Rock soul, a taste of Alternative Metal, and a twist of Post-Grunge, Leave a Whisper sticks to a defined yet integrative sound that propels its' message of hope despite adversity into the musical stratosphere.
Breat Taking Nov 21, 2008 This album is just breath taking. I don't care what anyone says "Leave a Whisper" is Shinedown best release to date. Their last 2 albums don't come close to beating it!
