Tremendous CD Feb 28, 2010 This is a TREMENDOUS CD and anyone purchasing it who has any sense of Progressive Rock will D-E-F-I-N-I-T-E-L-Y LOVE IT! A friend gave me this to listen to in 2000, and I have been listening to it ever since! The only song on the CD I'm not crazy about is Lamb....just does not do it for me. But Squonk, RA&B, Carpet Crawlers, Firth of Fifth, Afterglow, Supper's Ready all send shivers down my spine.
Genesis: Seconds Out Live CD. Feb 05, 2010 Steve Hackett was still in the band at this point, way before they hit it big with Abacab, and then later Land of Confusion. Even Bill Bruford plays drums on part of the tour. A good live concert record from this time period of Genesis.
Putting the classic into rock Jan 20, 2010 4 1/2
Still strong enough to be a prime example of art-rock performance at its absolute finest, besides from offering stunningly accurate renditions of mid-career classics the band brings out enough vitality in these performances so as to surpass many of the flatter originals.
Seconds Out Jan 01, 2010 I don't want to overly-hype but this is a beautiful album, overlooked by many since it was performed soon after Peter Gabriel's departure from the group. Most of the songs are actually better than the studio versions, benefiting from the added percussion of Bill Bruford to help them from being snoozey like the studio versions can be sometimes. To the relief of everyone, Phil Collins did a great job on vocals to fill the vacancy left by Peter Gabriel. Dynamic with both quiet and driving passages, all instruments are very well played, and the audience interaction really shows a true deep appreciation of their experience. As with many live recordings it can be sometimes hard to make out the lyrics with total clarity, but all selections on this album are solid and performed with feeling. The subsequent mixing and post recording editing only enhance the album in making it one of my favorite live albums. Some critics give it 3½ stars, but the way it makes me feel warrant at least 4 stars if not more. Definitely give it a listen if you are a fan of older Genesis stuff. You will be glad you did.
DEFINITELY ONE OF THE "THE ONES" TO OWN Oct 19, 2009 Frampton Comes Alive...Kiss Alive...Deep Purple: Made in Japan...Springsteen Live...Genesis: Seconds Out...
Live albums are generally thrown-out, contractual obligations albums that are, often, poorly produced and the performances sub-par. And then, there are the exceptions, where a live album can, literally, make a career happen. Such is the case with Genesis: Seconds Out. Outside of Genesis' first live effort, this one is a monstrous epic. Phil Collins, Bill Bruford, and Chester Thompson's drums are like charging herd of buffalo; Steve Hackett's guitar soars into the stratosphere; Tony Bank's keyboards cannot be challenged on any level; and Mike Rutherford's bass is just the beast. All that's missing is the blinding 70s Genesis light show. There's supposed to be more films footage of this show around, apart from the clips on youtube -- a reworked DVD would be the icing on this magnificent cake.
