Description:

Riding on the success of their last three chart topping albums, Staind is back with the highly anticipated release of their sixth studio album, The Illusion of Progress. The new Flip/Atlantic recording will be released on August 19th with the first single, Believe, hitting radio on June 24th. Staind' s last 3 studio albums have debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart, putting them in an elite class that includes U2, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Van Halen, and Disturbed. Over the past decade, Staind has sold more than 15 million records worldwide. They' ve had four #1 singles that span three different radio formats, including two massive crossover singles, It' s Been Awhile and Right Here (certified RIAA gold). But the band has never let their massive success get to their heads, lead guitarist Mike Mushok says that above all the band values a record that we love, and after that, we want other people to hear it, like it and be able to relate to it. Working with renowned producer Johnny K on the album, it will be impossible not to love what Lewis considers the band' s most musical CD with songs that are pretty timeless in their texture. Staind will be on the road all summer with 3 Doors Down headlining shows in over 40 cities across the country before joining Nickelback in September to continue the tour internationally.

5Great band !  Jul 25, 2010
Found the song tangled up in you on a friends myspace after she died.
Liked the song so much looked up the band and ordered the cd. the whole cd
is really good.

3Jonas Brothers anyone?  Jun 30, 2010
Staind has been my favorite band since 98. But this last album was upsetting. The only progress being made is their getting closer to being a pop band. A church choir in 'The Corner', and 'All I Want' sounding like a Jonas Brothers song did this album in for me.

1no progress here  Feb 28, 2010
these guys have been on a downward spiral with each new release.
staind's goal seems to be to become the most boring band on the rock scene today.
with the illusion of progress..i believe they've reached that goal.

4A great album that can hold its own despite the critics  Nov 29, 2009
The Illusion of Progress is a great record that can easily be considered a sequel album to both Chapter V and Shades of Gray. Sure, there are parts where this album does come up below the bar that is set by the handful of singles it features. What do people honestly expect from a rock band that's already established itself? Some new groundbreaking opus? They're not the hot new band shadowing Fred Durst anymore and they're very well aware of it. They're not singing about mommy and daddy not loving them with gutteral screams and lyrics that sound like they came from a 17-year olds diary. Now, they sing about life's challenges with a more mature tone, willing to allow some light to shine with their defining darkness.

Sure, this album may not have half of the album in the top 40, but it still has singles worth looking into. 'Believe' can easily be identified as a coming-of-age battle cry, one that I particularly relate to since I first heard it when I was going through some hard times away from home. 'All I Want' is a song that is more on the lighter side of Staind's sound but is catchy enough to make note of. 'Tangled Up In You' is an excellent and unexpected love song with a timeless feel. 'The Corner' is a blues and gospel wrapped ballad that will make your hair stand on end.

The main message of the album seems to be accepting the fact that life is what it is: there is both progress and challenge flowing in cycles. It is how we deal with these challenges that defines us. Whether we are able to disillusion ourselves or progress down the road, either way we still need to believe.
